double clutching is usually for non-synchromesh gearboxes, but is sometimes used in racing to help the gears mesh without blowing up the box. it is done by clutching into netural, release the pedal, adjust engine speed for next gear, and the clutch again into next gear, up or down the gearbox. motorcycles do not use synchromesh because of the cost and weight penalties, but cannot use double clutching because most of them have only sequential gearchanges, and should not normally select neutrals between gears.

people are stupid. you do not need to double clutch when racing or driving. it does nothing for performance. it just waste time when you take your foot of the clutch and put it back on. so you just wasted .2 of a secound for ever shift.
