If I had an empty piece of land, and built a dragstrip there, would it be considered illegal street racing?

Suppose I had a farm or something, with spare space there, and made a road through my farm that would serve as a dragstrip. I then call some friends over, and we do donuts and race around. Idk. Then a cop shows up and supposedly tries to “bust” us. Since it’s my property, is it still considered illegal street racing? I mean, its my business, why would he care?

You’d have to get all the right permits.
Call your City Planner’s office and ask their office of what is required to do such a thing.
Land use is limited by zoning laws which are determined by the city. So depends on where the land is and what not . You’d also need a boat load of insurance.

you shouldn’t get into trouble with that. it is your land, if you were racing for money or something of that nature than it may be considered illegal..but id say if you got the room go for it

No, it is your private property. However, there could be other legal ramifications, such as zoning restrictions, noise ordinances, etc. that could cause you problems.

first you can’t just up and do that. as you’d encounter laws like noise ordinance to begin with. plus your home owners insurance would drop you faster than you can sneeze as they would want no part of it. and even if you didn’t tell them, once someone got hurt and they tried to sue you, insurance would drop you then for false records.

just because its your land doesn’t mean you can do ANYTHING on it you want. if it effects others around you then normally its against the law or some ordinance.

most drag strips were approved and built before any city growth was around them. this is why they are there and also why its rare to see any new ones open up.

I dont think that is illegal because it is your property and you can do what ever you want with it since you own it.

Better check zoning laws. And noise ordainace and traffic congestion may lead also to your being ticketed if not shut down. Not carrying insurance for such use, say there are injuries this to can cause the cops to interfer. But there is a chance you could get away with it occassionally if you don’t have neighbors , losers or injured persons complaining or sueing you. Have a sign a race/play at on risk contract each time could save your **** a lot of headaches.

It is a question of “zoning.” Typically, today, what we see in most countries is that land is “zoned,” which means (basically) that it is categorized for a particular use. So, even if you have an empty piece of land, it is still subject to zoning regulations. Hence, you would have to check with the city/county authorities to see if the “improvement plans” for the land (which you have in mind) would be fully legal.

If it is illegal to build a dragstrip on the land that you have, then any contractor (metal worker, builder, plumber, electrician, carpenter, stone mason, etc.) who participated in building such a dragstrip (including accompanying buildings, facilities, etc.) would also be guilty of committing a crime.

its your land, its your bus. what you do with it !!!! remember– for everyone on your land, something happens to them, you will be held responsible !!!! in other words— not a very good idea having a drag strip, too dangerous for everyone there ..

    Yes, it is illegal. Sorry

    No..
It would be considered legal off road racing..

When driving on private property that is closed to the public you can do whatever you want. Just be careful not to get a assault with a deadly weapon, manslaughter, or child endangerment charge. Basically, just be careful and don’t hurt anyone and you won’t be breaking any laws.

I agree with DW about all the right paperwork, but otherwise… it’s your private property. It’s only illegal on gov’t owned land/roads. And Towns and cities count as government.
    Good luck with your strip.

I don’t know for sure but if it is your land you can do almost anything you want on it – at least as far as building a strip. But you can not violate noise or polution laws. And you can not endanger anyone or any other’s property.

I cannot speak for other states, but in MO this would not be illegal, providing you are not endangering anyone.

print a paper saying you are not responsible for any accidents and have everyone there sign and date it. if they dont sign they dont come in. also post signs around the track saying you are not responsible. its completely legal. the only problem would be noise ordinance. but you said a farm so your good.
