i have an edelbrock dual plane intake manifold for a small block chevy, can it go bad?

i would like to know can the intake go bad at any point and what might be the reason. it was on a 305 motor and the car wouldnt stay running. when we took it off and put on another intake it fired right up and ran fine. so i want to know will it work if i put it on another 305 motor. or is the intake in fact bad.
