MORE SOLSTICE COUPE @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com Our hopes were high following the debut of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe at the 2008 New York Auto Show last year. We had not forgotten the ergonomic shortcomings of the Solstice. Nor had its functional limitations slipped our minds. It was mechanically the same curvaceous Solstice that had made us swoon in 2006. Only now it had a bitchin’ hardtop. So here we stand again with hearts racing and gaze locked on the 2009 Pontiac Solstice …

why is that embaressing, Its not like the stupid new cavaliers with a 4banger, its a 1990 with a big ‘ol 3.1L linked to a 5spd Trans, its got loads of low end torque, it would win, my cavalier however has a Gm 3800 series Gen II from a, ’04 monte SS, Im pushing 260Hp and 280tq’s, so it wasnt much competition

if I had a base Solstice and I lost to a Cavalier I would just drive off a cliff… thats just embaressing

lol that’s great! people always under estimate those V6 Cavalier’s.

i have had both gxp and one without all that horsepower, gxp is much quicker, I love my Solstice and wouldnt get rid of it for anything! Of course mine sits in the garage most of the time, it is just for fun. and it is so much fun to drive

im gunna go ahead and say the convertible is better simply because you cant store the coupes roof anywhere…

  9. Comment by LBunis — January 18, 2010 @ 1:57 pm

solstice is meant to keep pontiac in buisness because the solstice is so affordable, but ya your right fail

This video says it all …. this car *****. What else is new, American cars are not what they use to be. I owned a 1971 Pontiac GTO with a 455 engine and that was the nicest ride accept my friends 1956 Chevy Nomad. Them are the old days….now GM is losing one line at a time. Good bye Olds, Pontiac and more to come. THANK GOD!! Sorry you gotta call a spade a spade.

idg the issue here. don’t you idiots realize that the corvette has the same style targa roof? nobody ever complains about this in the corvette, so why complain here?

don’t get me wrong, this car is terrible, but that’s no reason not to buy it. it’s the steering that gives you that reason.

Convertible or coupe? I mean if you dont have anywhere to store your roof then y not just get a conertible it stores the roof for you. so whats you guys’ opinions – ———COUPE or CONVERTIBLE?

soft suspension was done for comfortable ride…its easy to get it to handle really well with upgraded suspension.

Most of people buying it are middle aged and do not want harsh ride …

idiots lol why would you make a targa version and not able to fit it in the trunk lol…such fucking stupid designers. ” oh i think it’s not gonna rain today so maybe ill just take the top off and leave it in the garage” lol

yea because when pontiac was first introduced, it was meant to specialize in high performance cars, but the solstice gxp is in my opinion a epic failure

Pontiac was using this car as a comeback :( Pontiac was doing good recently but GM couldn’t afford to keep the Brand because of the budget they needed to meet. Initially pontiac was going to stick around and specialize in small cars, I held alot of respect for Pontiac’s outside of the box way of thinking. No other american brand seems to have the edge that Pontiac had.

miatas might out perform these, but they are such queermobiles. i dont think ive ever seen a straight guy driving them and its usually women anways.

another typical GM car that’s half assed out of the assembly line…..the corvette is the most accurate display of an overall car from GM i think….but even then the interior on the corvette isnt as it should be for the money….rip GM

I loved how pontiac had made this car originally for 20k. (Non GXP) It had semi sporty feel and looked great. But I was dissapointed with the price tag on the GXP… 10k more for not much more besideds a turbo and a few upgrades. They could have done a better job upgrading the suspension with stiffer coils. The suspension is 4 wheel independent with singe coils all around… it has alot of potential.
    PS :
the Opel GT, Saturn Sky, and Vauxhall Lightning are copies of this car.

the engine is proper, the ecotec LNF s an amazing engine, the suspension and steering rack is where it needs love

What a shame for Pontiac, usually not a big fan of american cars, the looks and size of the solstice would have got me into buying one if the driving experience were up to expectations. Replacing suspensions and fitting a customised gearbox might make a lot of difference, but for the price I’d rather get a used lotus elise!

  23. Comment by CordovaMage — February 11, 2010 @ 4:05 pm

can you imagine how great that thing would be if it had a proper engine and suspension? It already looks great.
