New to the street racing scene help choosing make?

Ive recently discovered import tuning on my friends 01 supra and im hooked im looking for advice on what make of car would be best for a new tuner and why. Please note by tuning i dont mean massive exhaust and body kits so stay away ricers. and tips would be greatly appreaciated
