Can you put two cars on two different insurance companies?

If i have two cars, can i put one on Geico and one on state farm. I’m having very bad experience with State farm and i’m thinking of switching with one car at at time. Is it possible to have the two cars in my household on two different insurance company eventhough both cars are in my name?

Caliper Bolts for 2001 Cavalier?

Posted by Lexus Fast | Automotive Tools | Sunday 30 November 2008 7:14 pm

Dr. E. Bunny A.K.A. Andy.
I’ve recently moved and lost allot of my automotive tools. I need to get a new bit for changing my brakes. Does anyone know what size for a 2001 Chev Cavalier? I remember it was some strange one I’ve never seen before. Usually, it’s 3/8th or ten mm but it wasn’t in this case?

Thanks,

Confessions of a Car Rental Marketer

Posted by Lexus Fast | Cars | Sunday 30 November 2008 6:28 pm

cars
I get paid to sell self-drive holidays to Australians, to encourage them to take to the open roads and explore new territory behind the wheel of a rental car. I have a confession to make. I can’t actually drive.

Now I haven’t deliberately kept this from my employer, it wasn’t mentioned in my interview nor was it in my job description alongside having excellent communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team or to meet deadlines in a fast paced working environment. It was neither an essential nor desirable attribute.

I have never lied about it, but I do avoid voluntarily giving out this information about myself. I’m almost 25 for goodness sake! Kids I used to babysit have got in the driver’s seat before me. I guess I just haven’t got around to it in 7 years. I’m used to the convenience of city living and not needing to be able to drive.

So while I am cruising comfortably on my P plates in my car rental marketing career, I have yet to get my Learners licence to drive. The irony of the situation was pointed out to me at a recent industry function when I was talking to a marketing guru from an airline. He asked me what kind of car I drove and I said quietly that, actually, I can’t drive. “What!” he exclaimed “You work for a car rental company and you can’t drive?!” True. But, I said to him, you work for an airline, can you fly a plane?

You see, what I try to market or sell is not driving. We don’t sell the idea of jumping into a rental car, the exhilaration of putting the key in the ignition, turning on the engine and…well, whatever it is that comes next.

No, we try to sell the idea of freedom, the thought of having independence and flexibility on holidays, exploring new places, making memories and having a good time. We try to inspire people to visit places off the beaten track and discover new things.

So does it actually matter that I can’t drive? Do you think dog food marketers have actually tasted what they’re selling? Exactly.

I have travelled around the world and I have been in cars lots of times, often simultaneously, so I know the feeling of having the wind in your hair, good music in your ears and a smile on your face. I know the excitement of visiting new and foreign lands and the joy of travelling around, not being in a cramped Greyhound bus or overcrowded non-air conditioned train.

I have just been in the passenger’s seat, not the driver’s, that’s all.

Having said all that, I know that I need to learn to drive. Will I finally take the plunge and learn? Yes, most definitely, in part to aid my copywriting, to gain independence and well, to see what all the fuss about.

Yes, there’s all that and also that promise that my partner made about getting a shiny new Yaris when I do finally get my license. Now that is an incentive to learn.

What kind of cars can you tow behind a motor home?

Posted by Lexus Fast | Cars | Sunday 30 November 2008 5:33 pm

bramblerock
My husband delivers motor homes for a living and needs a reliable car to tow behind for return trips home. He doesn’t want to have to disconnect the driveshaft each time as you have to do on some cars, or use a two wheel dolly. This would be for flat towing. Thanks!

Jacobsen Greens King IV: Replacing Older Engines

Posted by Lexus Fast | Engine Rebuilding Kits | Sunday 30 November 2008 11:05 am

Engine rebuilding kits
Small engine vehicles have been revitalized and revamped over the last several years. Golf carts and hauling vehicles once innovative in the 1980s were still able to be improved upon in the areas of design, steering mechanism, vehicle weight and basic functionality. Mowers, however, have remained constant in their design and mechanics for quite some time. The single biggest area of improvement for golf course and large area mowers is in the engine. Recent small engine mechanics innovation has allowed designers to create more powerful, easier to maintain, and more efficient engines for these pieces of equipment. Though older model mowers may have quality engines that are still getting the job done, many landscapers or greens keepers may find that the engine does not provide the power or efficiency that a newer vehicle could. Buying a new mower in order to get the power of a modern small engine is not necessary if you consider repowering the vehicle instead.

What Is Repowering?

Repowering a small engine refers to installing a newer rebuilt engine into an existing vehicle in order to improve its performance and save on buying a brand new vehicle or motor. By repowering, a landscapers or golf course maintenance crew gets more than just swapping out an old engine for the same rebuilt model engine. Rather, a repower kit swaps out an old engine for a newer, better engine model built with the latest technology. Repowering results in a better small engine in a vehicle for the fraction of the price of buying a new one.

I Already Have A Quality Engine

If you are a smart consumer, you have already bought a large mower from a reputable brand that stands by its products. So, you may wonder why you would ever want to consider repowering. Consider the Jacobsen Greens King IV. Jacobsen has an incredible reputation for being a leading turf maintenance mowers and equipment manufacturer for over 100 years. The company’s Greens King IV has been one of their best selling vehicles for over a quarter of a century. These mowers, however, will last longer and perform better if their engines are updated to newer models.

The need to innovate and improve performance is well understood by Jacobsen. The company’s newer model Greens King IV has a 16 or 18 horse power Briggs & Stratton Vanguard gas engines. Older models have a 14 or 16 horse power Kohler engines. Improving the engine is important to the long-term life of the mower and to achieve better performance. This is why so many are choosing to repower their landscaping mowers – to give their well-maintained older models more power and extend their life.

Jacobsen Greens King IV is a popular landscaping mower and hauling vehicle manufacturer. As such, there are a variety of repower kits available. There are Briggs & Stratton Vanguard small engines or Kohler small engine rebuild kits available, depending on what engine is currently installed in the GV IV. Diesel models are also great candidates for repower kits. Those landscapers with other mowers brands, something other than a Jacobsen, can easily find a repower kit compatible with their model too.

Where Do I Find A Repower Kit?

Small engine repower or rebuild kits are available from several certified dealers online. When looking for a kit, make sure the one you purchase comes with a warranty that you would expect from the original factory dealer. They are available. This will give you piece of mind and assurance that the quality of your machine will remain intact. After all, repowering a small engine is a step toward improving the value of your mower and extending its life.

Car Salvage – Cars and Parts at a Bargain

Posted by Lexus Fast | Cars | Saturday 29 November 2008 11:48 pm

cars
Car Salvage is a huge business and presents many opportunities for someone looking for a cheap car or cheap spare parts for their cars. If you cannot afford to buy a brand new car from a showroom or do not wish to buy a 20 year old used car, or wish to buy a second car for the family, buying a car from Car Salvage is the best option. You may be lucky and find your dream car within your budget at Car Salvage.

A Car Salvage company may have many cars of many brands and models, for sale, including crash damaged cars, bikes, vans, and many other types of vehicles. You can also find listings for slightly damaged or rain damaged cars that come directly from insurance companies.

A registered Car Salvage company has listings and auctions for the damaged cars that are offered by insurance companies after settling claims, and to compensate for the insurance write offs. Some people are just put off by Car Salvage Auctions, thinking that the cars must be scrap. But not all cars in a Car Salvage listing and auction are crash damaged and good only for scrap metal. Only those cars that are deemed repairable are listed. Many of them are rain damaged or damaged in some other way, or a stolen and recovered vehicle. There are varying degrees of damage to a car that come up for auctions. You can take the advice of your local garage owner and view the listings, with the details, in a Car Salvage auction, along with the prices, and discuss the cost of repair with the garage owner. You can get a fair idea of what you should bid and the final cost after repairs. You may be lucky and find a car in very good condition, with very little damage, and low cost of repair. You should also take into account the charges levied by the Car Salvage Company.

The process is simple enough and most Car Salvage Companies have websites with listings and registration process being conducted online. You do not even have to shell out all the money at once, and just have to pay a deposit, but you do have to register first. You can then request the Car Salvage Company to bid on your behalf in the auction, for the car that you have selected. If your bid wins, you pay the balance and complete the paperwork and you own the car. If you lose the bid, the deposit can be retained with the Car Salvage Company for a bid on another car. Whichever way it goes, buying a car from an auction is not all bad if you are careful.

Besides cars, you can also find motorcycles, vans, and other types of vehicles of many brands, makes, and models in Car Salvage listings and auctions. Besides vehicles, you can also find spare parts for your vehicles. You can find spare parts cars, bikes, vans, and other vehicles in the listings. You will just have to spend time looking through the listings or search for a specific brand, make, and model within your budget and price range. The market is huge with hundreds of vehicles and spare parts with the best prices and few hassles. If you are knowledgeable about cars and spare parts, it should not be a problem in selecting a car or looking for a spare part. But if you have very little knowledge about cars, parts, and repairing costs, etc, it would be better to take the advice of a garage owner you know, who will not only advice you, but also repair the car.

Is it dangerous to leave cars air conditioning on while car is off?

Posted by Lexus Fast | Cars | Saturday 29 November 2008 5:36 pm

My mom says if you leave your cars air conditioning on when you turn the car off, so it automatically is on when you turn your car on, that it hurts the engine. Is that true or is she full of BS? It sounds like complete BS to me.

Can someone please help me with my english? Automotive retail cover letter?

Posted by Lexus Fast | Automotive Tools | Saturday 29 November 2008 2:05 pm

Trust_in_myself
I made this cover letter below. Let me know what can be changed/added or modified. Your help is highly appreciated. Going tomorrow morning on job search.

Dear Manager,
I’ve been purchasing tools and spare parts from your store for months, admiring the vast selection of products you got there and wishing I could work there. But until now it wasn’t possible. Today, however, I’m in a position to apply for a part time/casual retail salespersons job providing you got vacancies.
I decided to write a cover letter to introduce myself and then ask for an in-person meeting to discuss what you are looking for. I currently work as a part time Mechanic for Subaru ******* and study at ******** completing my Advanced Diploma of Automotive Management. Therefore my availability is limited only for the weekends (Saturday and Sunday full day) until December.
I have worked in a few automotive workshops, working on a vast range of Japanese and European vehicles. Searching for correct reliable spare parts was one of the biggest objectives I had at work, which made me apply for this job and to learn how to provide the customers with the correct reliable spare part/tool according to their need.
Furthermore in the past as a Subway restaurant supervisor I have learned a lot about customer service and how a happy customer will promote the business whereas an unhappy customer could actually demote the business.
In overseas I have a background where I worked on a lot on cars and doing car sales as my father owns a car yard, hence the reason I became a mechanic.
Now I seek an opportunity to further develop my customer service and managing skills and I think that this would be a better career path in the long run. I hope that my knowledge in vehicles would be an advantage for this job.
If you’d like to schedule an interview with me, and I hope you do, please call me on ********* and state a date and a time and I’ll be there.

Sincerely,

**********

I am interested in a 2007 Accent but would like to know if you can get aftermarket parts for them. Or would I be stuck with buying Hyundai parts? I know how expensive replacement parts can be.
The nearest Hyundai dealer is 40 miles away…( 80 mile round trip..)I wouldn’t be taking it there to have it serviced

Automotive: Removing super tight bolt?

Magnuzza
I have this bolt that I need to remove. But the thing is that it’s super tight! Already used wd40 but still won’t even turn a bit. Is there any electric tools to remove bolt? What’s the name and brand of it? I know that there’s a tools like that for ***** called grabit (they use electric drill to remove screw).

Bolt looks like this:

http://dirtriderimports.com/sales/images/drian-bolt.gif

Any help would be much appreciate it.

Thank you.
Me and my friend don’t have enough strength to turn it. Extension won’t work because the bolt located on a really small place under the car. Only able to turn 1/3 from full rotation (that’s how small it is)
Trying to remove the last bolt of 3 bolts of my bmw power steering pump.

Children should ride rear-facing in a car seat until they reach at least 1 year of age and weigh at least 20 pounds. Parents are tempted to turn the car seat around, before the child is old enough, because it is difficult to see the child when they are rear facing. The baby would rather be turned around also, so they can see Mom and Dad. You must resist doing this, because it is not safe. Your babies neck is just simply not strong enough to take the force that is caused by a car accident. So as hard as it is, these guidlines must be followed.

Different Rear Facing Car Seats

There are 2 kinds of rear-facing car seats. There are infant-only seats and convertible seats. Infant car seats are small and have a handle for carrying the seat. Many of these come with a stroller system that the seat can snap into. Infant car seats can not be installed front-facing. Infant car seats can only be used for up to 22 to 30 pounds depending on the seat. Each manufacture is different, so be sure to check their specifications. They are more commonly used for infants, because they can be used as a carrier also. The baby can be set in them in the grocery store, doctors office or where ever you go. Make sure to keep your baby strapped in at all times, to prevent them from slipping out.

Many infant car seats come with a base for the car. You attach the base in the car and then you can just pop the car seat into it. This is nice because you don’t have to mess with the seat belts every time you put your baby in the car. You have the option to buy extra bases to use if you have multiple cars. Some car seats can be put in with or without the base. That might be something you’ll want to look for. Then if you ride with someone else you won’t have to move the base out of your car to use in another car.

Convertible car seats can be used rear-facing until the baby is old enough and then they can be turned around. This saved you money, because you can use the seat longer. These can be used for a couple of years depending on the size of the child. They take up more room and are not meant to be taken in and out of the car. They are rated to be used rear-facing for higher height and weight, so they are great for babies that are bigger or taller.

Types of Harnesses

The 5-point harness is the most secure. They attach on both sides of the babies shoulders and the hips. And then between the legs. These are used in infant only car seats and in convertible car seats.

The T-harness is a padded t-shaped or triangle-shaped shield attached at both shoulders and then between the legs. It would be considered a 3-point harness. These are used in infant only car seats and in convertible carseats.

The overhead shield has a padded tray-like shield that comes over the child’s head and rests in front of the baby. This one only applies to the convertible car seat.

Installation

Always make sure the car seat is tightly installed. The harness should fit snugly around your baby. Never use a car seat in the front seat of a car with a passenger air bag. If it inflates, it will cause serious injury to your baby or even death. Check the harness slots. They should be at or below your babies shoulders. If the seat belts in your car require locking clips, then make sure you use them. All car safety seats should come with locking clips. Check your vehicle manual. Most newer cars do not need locking clips. If you are using a convertible seat in the rear-facing position, make sure the seat belt is routed through the correct belt path. Read the instructions that came with the car safety seat to be sure. If your vehicle was made after 2002, it may come with the LATCH system, which is used to secure car safety seats. Make sure the seat is at the correct angle so your infant’s head does not flop forward. Many seats have angle indicators or adjusters that can help prevent this. If your seat does not have an angle adjuster, tilt the car safety seat back by putting a rolled towel or other firm padding (such as a pool noodle) under the base near the point where the back and bottom of the vehicle seat meet.

Always use the instruction manual that is provided with the car seat. It is the safety of your that is at hand, so make sure you use the car seat the proper way that it was intended.

Find A Good Shop To Get The Best Jet Ski Motor And More

Posted by Lexus Fast | Engine Rebuilding Kits | Wednesday 26 November 2008 5:50 pm

Engine rebuilding kits
Keeping a good care of your jet ski motor will take it to its peak performance. In fact, if you keep it in good condition, you really would not have to bother about rigid maintenance after.

But there are natural circumstances that we cannot discard. All jet skis depreciate and suffer from natural death. But that of course would take ages before happening.

Well, before your jet ski gets old and die because of an impaired motor, it would be good to note that there are shops that offer services regarding motors, spare parts and accessories.

Too many jet ski owners believe that what they need is a new jet ski motor when all the while, they only have to revamp their old ones. However, it can also be remanufactured and perform in the level of new ones. To help the motor regain its usual performance, the owner must be able to seek a top-caliber repair shop that exceeds one’s expectations.

Here are some tips that will help you discover the best people to do the work for you:

Complete service

If you can’t find this service then rest assured that such is the normal case. Most motor shops these days specialize in specific parts. However, there will always be some self-respecting motor shops that can provide you with all the stuffs you need.

Various local jet ski motor shops offer engine parts such as piston kits, crankshaft parts, cylinder heads, rebuild kits, and a number of others. Many of these shops also have their online services that further improve their outreach.

Aside from providing new, revamped or remanufactured jet ski motors, most shops both online and offline offer repairing services in case you lack the knowledge of fixing the motor yourself. Between their large selections of parts and equipments, you can also be assured of in-house services that will deliver your jet ski motors in their prime condition.

There are other packages that may be had from jet ski motor shops. Among these are the performance packages that will recreate your personal watercraft vehicle into a speed maniac that is ideal for racing and personal enjoyment.

Additionally, such shops may also provide wide array of parts selections used for other watercraft systems such as the pump, electrical connections and exhaust.

Well, jet ski stuffs never cease to increase in volume and kinds so it would be good to add that many shops can also provide jet ski gears and accessories. These include huge selections of eyewear and wetsuits, which make the sports an infinite source of enjoyment for water sport lovers.

Cheap Car Insurance – How to Get It

Posted by Lexus Fast | Cars | Wednesday 26 November 2008 12:40 pm

cars
With gas prices being the way they have people all over the country have started to get creative with their finances and the costs associated with auto travel.

Prices vary from company to company, so it pays to shop around. Get at least four to five price quotes. You will find that there are several websites out there that can save you the time from doing this the slow and hard way as they will often get you quotes from up to a dozen companies all at once. You can call companies directly or access information on the Internet. Your state insurance department may also provide comparisons of prices charged by major insurers. And no, companies like Progressive that claim they will compare other companies, but they are an insurance company, so they are not to be trusted. They only have one interest, and that is to promote their own business.

Bigger is not always better. There are several low cost automobile insurance companies offering competitive rates in relation to the big names out there. This makes it possible to save a bundle on this expense. Many people seem to ignore this cost and tend to accept the burden of expensive insurance even when monthly payments almost match a car payment. In one case, I lowered my car insurance rates by about 50% when I found a good local company (I had switched from a really big name company).

One of the best ways to get cheap car insurance is simply to use a service that forces insurance agents and brokers to compete against one another. At the end of this article is one example of such a site. As soon as you finish your online quote request, multiple agents will contact you. But it is important to NOT sign up with any one of them immediately-Instead, let them know that you are awaiting calls from other local insurance providers. After 5 or so of these people have contacted you, you should have a good idea of what sort of range you might expect to pay.

Then, if you really want to get the cheapest car insurance possible, simply tell the agents that you are ready to buy within the next 24 hours with whichever company offers you the lowest insurance rates. This really puts the fire under them, and is sure to create the most optimal pricing for you. Of course, be sure to carry through on your promise.

If it makes sense, you may want to consider getting a bundle package. Basically, see what it might cost to insure not only your car, but also your home, property, health and life insurance. This can save a person around 10% – 30% depending on the company you go with; and it does make paying your bills easier as well.

Oh, and one more tip, remember that the more info you provide upfront, the more accurate your quotes will be, and the more likely the insurance companies will be responsive to your inquiry. This is especially true when filling out a quote from multiple companies.

Posted by Lexus Fast | Automotive Tools | Sunday 23 November 2008 9:56 pm

I have an 03 monte carlo. I am looking to buy a scan tool of some kind that can be used for all makes of vehicles. Any idea of a good one to get or look at. I am not looking to spend a ton here. Just looking for a reliable scanner that can point me in the right direction. And also not sure but do i have to buy a manual to read the error codes or does a scanner come with one? any info would be appreciated.

Looking for a New Car Loan? Then Look Beyond the Car Yard!

Posted by Lexus Fast | Cars | Sunday 23 November 2008 9:53 pm

Last weekend I was out looking to buy a new car – a Holden Calais 60th anniversary edition in fact. I had been to a few dealerships and finally made a decision to buy. The salesman asked whether I had pre-arranged a new car loan. I hadn’t done so and as a result I was ushered into the office and bombarded with a whole heap of numbers relating to a proposed new car loan. What I couldn’t understand was how instead of telling me an interest rate the dealer focused on the monthly installment and making sure I was happy with that. He juggled around with the residual value so that the new car loan amount was reduced when I indicated that I would struggle with the new car loan payments he first calculated. It’s funny how when you are considering a new car loan all you want is..to take delivery!! You don’t often take the time to run the numbers and actually establish just what interest you are paying. I decided to contact my mortgage broker – he had looked after me when I had recently applied for a cheap home loan and at the time had said he could also help with a new car loan if I was ever in the market. I am always astounded at the level of knowledge of my mortgage broker. He has his finger on the pulse – not just with mortgage finance but also with new car finance. He knows who is in the market, what their terms and conditions are, who is offering the best rate… why a new car loan with Lender A might be better than a new car loan with Lender B even though the monthly installment due with Lender B is lower than the new car loan repayment with Lender A. What really surprised me was threat my mortgage broker was also able to source me the identical car at a lower price. It seems that some mortgage brokers and lease brokers have arrangements in place with car dealerships whereby they can get the car cheaper. This is apparently because car dealerships often have a bonus structure operating and if a certain volume of cars are sold within a month then the bonus kicks in from the manufacturer. If say a car dealer needs to sell 30 cars in the month and coming in to the end of that month he is sitting at 28 cars then the bonus amount he will lose if he does not reach his volume target will be significantly higher than the amount by which he could discount the sale price to you. This guy is not worrying about the new car loan he just wants to ensure the target is reached. He’ll worry about the new car loan once he has secured the deal with you. As a random buyer you are not aware of these statistics but where a mortgage broker or lease broker deals with new car finance they will often know where the car dealership’s sales are at and whether the timing might be right to negotiate a good deal. I ended up a very happy chappie because I obtained a new car at a lower price with a new car loan that really suited me well.
